History is made at Brands Hatch!
Double Pole, Three Race Wins, and a Fastest Lap - Reza makes history as the only driver since the championships inception to lead every single lap of a race weekend and secure the famed ‘Clean Sweep’.
Heading into the weekend at Brands Hatch there was an air of quiet confidence, and excitement following a successful day of testing in the build up to the weekend, as Reza topped the timings in each of the Friday practice sessions.
Although there are no guarantees when it comes to racing, as anything can happen once those lights go out, we kept everything crossed for qualifying where we hoped he could convert the pace from the previous days running, into a strong starting position for race one.
Un-phased by the challenge of soaring temperatures, and pressure from the other cars around him, he managed to settle into a rhythm, quickly setting the timing screens alight with a flurry of purple sectors, securing a momentous double pole.
We knew going into the first race the pressure from the cars behind would be immense, with the championship title still mathematically undecided, so this wasn’t going to be easy. But Reza was able to keep a cool head, despite the weather hotting things up to 40+ degrees in the car, he was able to put up a brilliant defence from lights to flag, whilst managing the gap to the cars behind, achieving his first race win of the season.
Lining up on pole for Race Two, and after a brilliant start - the fight was on. Reza put up an almighty defence, and managed to extend the lead by a comfortable margin before the safety car came out, effectively cancelling out his otherwise commanding lead. But thanks to the excellent coaching from the team pre-season, Reza was comfortably able to fend off numerous attempts from the hard charging cars behind, to cross the line with another 1st place finish, securing win No.2 of the weekend.
As Sunday evening drew in, following a nerve wracking build up to the third and final race of the weekend, it was all to play for and the ‘clean sweep’ was very much in sight.
Due to finishing 1st in the previous race, Reza lined up for the third time in Pole position - and was able to achieve another lights to flag victory, despite a mighty effort from the following cars.
With a Double Pole, 3 Race Wins, and a Fastest Lap thrown in for good measure, Reza made history by being the only driver since the championships inception (2003) to lead every single lap of a race weekend, and secure the famed ‘Clean Sweep’- demonstrating his impressive capabilities, and capturing the attention of the thousands of race fans in attendance, as all the action unfolded through the weekend.
We leave Brands Hatch on a high, with a lot of positives to take away from the weekend. For now, we have just over a week before we head to Donington Park for testing ahead of what will be the season finale in October.
