A hard weekend, but we’ll keep pushing!
4 action packed days at the home of the British Grand Prix - here’s your recap of everything you need to know from G Fest 2023.
It was a tough weekend at Silverstone across the three days of racing for the inaugural Ginetta Festival, which saw us run on both the Grand Prix and National Circuit layouts.
A different weekend format to the typical meeting saw us compete in a qualifying round, and two races on Friday, Saturday and the Sunday, offering plenty of seat time and the chance for the drivers to prove themselves across the weekends running.
On Friday we had a really strong start, qualifying P6 for Race One and P9 for Race Two - Reza quickly made up places early on in the race and was in the led for a number of laps as things drew to a close, holding off some intense attacks from the cars behind. As the chequered flag came out, he crossed the line in P4, a valiant effort despite the car developing a power issue towards the end of the day.
Saturday brought forward new challenges, after a detailed inspection of the car, the team made a few tweaks in the hope that it could bring back the pace we seemed to be lacking, but were ultimately unsuccessful, and Reza qualified P15, finishing both of the two races in P12.
After a monumental effort on Saturday evening to turn the cars around ready for the next day by the whole team, we went into qualifying on a more optimistic note, but the car still seemed to be down on performance. Despite this, Reza gave it everything and qualified P9, ending Sundays racing with a P9 and P12 finish.
In light of the challenges thrown his way, Reza fought hard all weekend, allowing him to demonstrate his natural talents and car control - but this wasn’t quite enough to continue his stellar run of podiums since the season opener.
With a couple of weeks to prepare, the team will be taking a detailed look at the car to hopefully discover the issue, and are confident they can fix it ready for the next round.
A special thank you must go out to all of the mechanics and engineers, as well as Nathan, Jamie and Phil, who all rallied around Reza to keep his head up, and resolve the issues as best they could throughout the weekend. With their backing and support, coupled with renewed determination, we’re aiming for a much better result as we head to Snetterton for the next round.
